STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

As Forrest Gump said, “Life was like a box of chocolate, you will never know what you are going to get.” His words deeply impressed in my mind. When I feel depressed by frustrations and obstacles, I will always think of the words which give me encouragement and passion to move on. I believe as long as I never give up whenever facing challenges and difficulties, I will make it finally and achieve my dream in my life. As my undergraduate study ended, and my INTO Mason program coming to end, I start to think about my future that is to have further study on Statistical Science to sharpen my professional skills and become elite in the related field.
The decisive reason leading me walk into the world of statistics shall date back to my high school life. The first time I touched the data analysis because of the mathematical competition. I gradually learned how to use the math methods to solve all kinds of problems, which showed me a new and mysterious hall. Although I know I was not capable at that moment, this strange field encouraged me to access to mathematics and statistics. During the graduate period, I have found myself being interested in the data analysis related to the filed of Economic Statistics, Financial Engineering, and Statistics Modeling. The keen passion to be practical and sensitive in my learning career lead me step forward. With my persistent efforts and fortitude to the learning of the major courses, I became the popular students with teachers in the class who always showed the active thing and high interests in raising questions. Besides, I maintained a satisfying academic performance in my university study, which laid a solid foundation for my further exploration in the relative areas of statistics. In addition, while completed my undergraduate degree of Statistics at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in China, I earned an opportunity to attended the INTO Mason program to get closer to my further study. During the period, I took several courses, such as Introduction Graduate Study of International Students and Graduate Communication in Disciplines, about how to help me to integrate into the American academic life; meanwhile, I also had a few professional classes about Applied Statistics and Probability Methods, which would short the bridge between me and the American universities. Thus, I want to continue my master study in Statistics for meeting my interests, improving my academic skills and helping me obtain a good job in the future.
With my academic strength in statistics, I have found my advantages of analytical capacity. Rather than the use of my advantage on course study, I also attached the importance to improve my analytical ability in the practical way. In my undergraduate study, I conducted several researches in the field of statistics, and the best one is my bachelor’s research, “Studied on the Development of Agricultural Mechanization in China”, which mainly examined the correlation between agricultural mechanizations and the development trend in China by several statistics methods. Additionally, I also several times took part in Mathematical Contest in Model Certificate of Achievement hosted by Central China area and USA. I won the second class prize in the former competition; however, unfortunately, I just obtained the Successful Participant in the latter contest. But because of my excellent major skills, I achieved Zhongnan University of Economic and Law Fellowship many times, and earned a internship as an assistant and business marketing in China Rongshang Bank, who contributed to data analysis of bank account details and introductions of bank business.
What’s more, I also invested some of my spare time to improve my overall personal abilities through a variety of extracurricular activities. In my sophomore and junior year, I was selected as Minister of the Publicity Department of Student Union in the School of Statistics and Mathematics, which engaged in activity organization and propaganda, and contacting diverse commercial organizations. During my term, I improved my communications skills, computer software technology and writing business proposals, etc. Moreover, because of my interest in dancing, I was selected as Vice-chairman of the school’s Sports Dance Associations and initiated many talent shows in the campus. Through these colorful extracurricular activities, my leadership skills have greatly developed. Thus, along with the honors of being honors of being awarded a school scholarship and the development of actual working abilities from these activities, I gained more understanding of being a leader, of teamwork and more importantly, the satisfaction of being a useful individual for both my classmates and society.
Last but not least, I would like to reaffirm my passion in Statistical Science, which promotes me to look for a world-class education paradise to further my graduated study. What professional knowledge, like data analysis models and statistics software technology, I learned from undergraduate study, will offer me a chance to approach the further study; what communication skills, such as writing abilities and network building, I obtained from INTO program may provide me a platform to integrate into the American academy. Thus, holding the firm faith and my nearly five-year diligent learning, I have been soundly-prepared to be a graduate in your renowned university. I believe your outstanding academic environment would provide me with the learning opportunities to explore the cutting-edge knowledge and research in statistical science as well as the valuable chances to fulfill my career when I come back to realize my value in my hometown.
